Call for Proposals

This inaugural conference is looking for papers, presentations, and performances from hip hop practitioners and scholars in the community. Open to the public, we encourage you to think critically, expansively and imaginatively about what hip hop means to you, to CUNY, to NYC, and to the world beyond at this time of Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary and ahead toward what’s to come.

What conversations still need to be had? Who’s being overlooked or left out? What are we avoiding? What more can we learn from where hip hop’s been and where it stands today? Who or what still needs their flowers? What questions, sounds, theories and visions can inspire how we engage with and represent hip hop as we proceed (to rock the mic)?
